Happy New Year!!!

I can hardly believe 2019 is here, but after a month of reflecting throughout the Advent season I’m ready to walk into a new year. I am looking forward to all of the promises God will fulfilled and the blessings that God will release this year.

I really had a wonderful time ringing in the new year with my church family. Our winter white party, with all of the music, food, dancing, karaoke, and a comedian, was a huge departure from the watch night services I’d grown accustomed to at the various churches I've served. Shortly before midnight, we gathered on the dance floor and prayed in the new year. At midnight, balloons dropped from the ceiling as we hugged, cried, and spoke blessings over each other. About two minutes later I heard my pastor say, “nobody leave the dance floor” and before I knew it we were celebrating the first few minutes of 2019 dancing to Marvin Gaye.

Such a wonderful celebration was a fitting close to 2018 and start to 2019 because we as a church are beginning a new chapter. For the first 90 days of 2019 we will be in a consecration period, seeking God for a move of the Holy Spirit in our ministries and in our lives. For three months we will be in a season of intense prayer, discipleship, and fasting as we seek God for direction concerning the church and our various ministries. I am nervously yet enthusiastically anticipating how God will move on our behalf collectively and individually in response to this act of faith.

I am also using this time to act on what God told me by way of my pastor. I spent a lot of time during Advent reflecting, as is my usual practice. Some of the most significant events of my life- both good and bad- seemed to have taken place during Advent. What the Lord told him to tell me is that it is good to reflect, reflection is a good thing, but it’s time to stop reflecting and START PREPARING! It was a word of confirmation because God convicted me earlier this year about not preparing for the very thing I had been praying for. In light of that reality, I’m so glad I had a chance to celebrate big going into 2019 because this year I’m preparing with expectancy!
